Over 2, 000 children immunised against measles

Nakonde, April 3, 2023—Over two thousand children in Nakonde District have been immunised against measles in the on-going immunisation catch up programme.
The catch up programme follows an outbreak of the contagious disease that was reported in the district in the first week of March.
Nakonde District Health Information Officer, Elis Kalengo says a total of 2,141 children have since received the jab meant to boost their immunity as well as protect them against the disease.
“So far, we have immunised over two thousand children against measles from various health facilities that we have in the district,” he said.
Mr Kalengo has further revealed that the district has not recorded any new case of measles in the last twelve days.
He has attributed the new development to community awareness and stakeholder engagement which was well carried out.
“It could be that we maybe managing the cases well, most members of the community are aware,” he said.
He has called on members of the community not to relent in reporting any suspected cases of measles to their nearest health facilities.
Cumulatively, the district stands at 29 in terms of cases.
