Government is delighted to inform the nation that it is on course in the disbursements of payments for pension arrears that accumulated during the previous administrations. In this regard, the UPND Government has since assuming office in August last year been releasing funds to the Public Service Pensions Fund (PSPF) and the Local Authorities Superannuation Fund (LASF) for payment of pension arrears. For retirees under the Public Service Pensions Fund (PSPF), Government has cleared ALL the dues that were owed from years back up to 31st December, 2021amounting to K2.6 billion. What has remained outstanding are dues for the retirees who retired within this year 2022, amounting to K1.1 billion which Government is also resolved to clear. Regarding those under the Local Authorities Superannuation Fund (LASF), Government has paid K300 million, between last year and this year, leaving a balance of K150 million. Further, Government has made, in the 2022 supplementary budget, a provision of K1 billion for PSPF and K150 million for LASF for payment of pension arrears. The clearance of the outstanding dues is in line with Government’s desire and determination to restore dignity in the lives of retirees after working so hard and for so many years for the country. Hon. Chushi Kasanda, MP MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND MEDIA AND CHIEF GOVERNMENT SPOKESPERSON
